It's All About The Music
We invite anyone who is interested in harmony singing, American history, warm fellowship or folk music traditions to join and sing with us. NO EXPERIENCE NECESSARY!
We meet to sing on the Saturday before the second Sunday of each month (Saturday after the first Sunday of the month, if you prefer), from 2pm-4pm. We also host an all-day singing during October and various special singings throughout the year. See our calendar for exact dates.
We come from different faiths and backgrounds with the common purpose to sing together and to enjoy one another's company. We generally sing from two books, The Sacred Harp and The B.F. White Sacred Harp. We have extra books available for visitors to use.
About ten people met together at the Folk Traditions Store on Sunday afternoon, October 30, 2004, to talk about Sacred Harp singing and to listen to recorded samples. We decided then to establish a regular monthly meeting and first started singing together the following month. Our first meetings were held at First Christian Church. Now we meet at Faith Primitive Baptist Church. We usually have about twenty singers at each meeting, along with a handful of visitors. We held our first all-day singing in October, 2005, with a singing school conducted by Hugh McGraw.
